ESA Foundation Offering Scholarships for Future Video Game Developers

Women and Minorities Encouraged to Apply by May 15, 2012

March 27, 2012 – WASHINGTON, DC – The Entertainment Software Association Foundation (ESAF) is currently accepting applications for its 2012-2013 scholarship program through May 15, 2012. Established in 2007, the ESA Foundation’s Scholarship Program awards up to 30 annual scholarships of $3,000 each to women and minority students.

“We are proud to continue supporting the education of our industry’s next generation of innovators and leaders who will drive creativity, talent, and diversity at entertainment software companies in the coming years,” said Rich Taylor, senior vice president for communications and industry affairs at ESA, which is the trade association representing U.S. computer and video game publishers. “This scholarship program makes a difference in the lives of America’s youth by providing opportunities for aspiring game professionals to obtain the skills necessary to achieve success.”

The scholarships aim to increase the diversity of the computer and video game industry. ESAF offers the scholarship program each year for full-time study at accredited four-year colleges and universities in the United States.

ESAF has provided scholarships to 150 college students and 90 graduating high school seniors studying graphic design, computer science, animation or programming, digital entertainment or software engineering. Such programs have become increasingly popular in recent years, with colleges, universities and technical schools in 45 states and the District of Columbia currently offering more than 340 game degree programs and courses in game design, development, and programming.

Students interested in applying for the 2012-2013 scholarship can visit www.esafoundation.org/scholarship.asp for additional information and to complete an application form. Applications must be submitted by May 15, 2012. ESAF will announce winners in the fall of 2012.

The ESA Foundation was created by the American entertainment software industry to provide opportunities that can make a difference in the lives of America’s youth. The Foundation is fully supported by proceeds from sales of its limited edition charity game packs and "Nite to Unite for Kids," its annual fund-raiser, which has raised more than $12 million in the last 13 years.
