ESA Foundation Now Accepting Applications for 2014 Grant and Scholarship Programs

Philanthropic Initiatives Support Educational, Career Opportunities for America’s Youth

March 13, 2014 – WASHINGTON, DC – The Entertainment Software Association Foundation (ESAF), the video game industry’s philanthropic arm, is accepting applications for its 2014 grant and scholarship programs. These programs provide valuable resources to nonprofits and teachers who leverage interactive entertainment software to enhance youth education, and to students pursuing a career in the video game industry.

“Video games and game technology are transforming the way educators teach, enlivening the way students learn, and creating lucrative jobs in the entertainment software industry,” said Jenny Lai, vice president of ESAF. “We are proud to offer an array of programs that expand educational and career opportunities for youth nationwide, preparing the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.”

ESAF’s grants and scholarships have had a meaningful impact on past recipients.

“My ESA Foundation scholarship is helping me realize a childhood dream of becoming a 3D animator,” said Sabrina Chaney, a sophomore majoring in Animation, Interactive Technology, Video Graphics, and Special Effects at Savannah College of Art and Design. “I am now learning how to bring the characters I have always imagined to life through animation.”

“With the support of ESAF, we are able to provide more than 1,000 girls with hands-on resources and technology to learn how to design video games,” said Kristen Simon, STEM program manager of Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles. “By engaging young girls in game design and connecting them with female video game industry professionals, we are exposing girls to new educational opportunities and career paths that they may never have considered before.”
