To inspire future creators in the video game industry and encourage diversity in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM), the ESA Foundation established a scholarship fund providing support for women and minority students.
The ESA Foundation Computer and Video Game Arts and Sciences Scholarship
Established in 2007, the ESA Foundation’s Computer and Video Game Arts and Sciences Scholarship has been awarded to nearly 400 women and minority students across the country, enabling them to follow their dream of earning video game-related degrees. Aside from providing students with much-needed funding, the scholarship offers non-monetary opportunities, including networking and mentoring sessions and access to major industry events, like the Game Developers Conference and E3.
Applicants Must Be:
- Women or minority students
- Enrolling or enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States
- Maintaining a grade point average of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
- U.S. citizens

Eligible applicants for the ESA Foundation’s Computer and Video Game Arts and Sciences Scholarship can also opt in for an additional scholarship provided by a partnership with Gay Gaming Professionals. The National Association of Collegiate Esports estimates that, since 2016, more than $16 million in esports college scholarships have been awarded, yet women and minority students account for a low percentage of recipients. As part of its 2020-21 scholarship program, the ESA Foundation introduced its first-ever esports scholarship, offering academic support for underrepresented students competitively gaming through their U.S. colleges and universities.
