SAAM Arcade 2017

On August 5 - 6 in Washington, D.C., the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) – a 2017 grantee recipient – held its third annual SAAM Arcade, supported by the ESA Foundation. With nearly 20,000 attendees, the event highlighted the historic and revolutionary role video games have played in our society. From video game showcases to workshops, the SAAM Arcade served as a forum to educate, empower, equip and encourage the next generation. Through this celebration of video games as an art form, youth attendees were able to engage in hands-on, interactive activities such as coding their own video games.

The weekend was filled with a series of exciting activities that people of all generations could enjoy including, an “Indie Showcase,” the Boys and Girls Club Youth Esports League Championship, and game-building workshops held by ESA Foundation partners Boolean Girl and the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. The SAAM Arcade 2017 brought together a diverse audience of video game enthusiasts and introduced games to new audiences. ESA Foundation is proud to partner with SAAM to leverage entertainment software and technology to create meaningful opportunities for people of all ages, especially America's youth.
